Drew McIntyre - The Chosen One?

Drew McIntyre is he still the Chosen One?

Andrew Galloway known to me and you as Drew McIntyre is a Scottish professional wrestler working with the WWE. McIntyre began his career by training at the FWA Academy in Portsmouth when his family moved from Scotland to Portsmouth. In the FWA Academy he was trained by Mark Sloan, Justin Richards and James Tighe but has also said regular roster members also helped with training including, Doug Williams, Paul Burchill and Alex Shane.

He made his overall debut on the inaugural show of British Championship Wrestling of which he found fame winning the Heavyweight Championship twice. In 2004 he faced many American veterans such as The Honkey Tonk Man, Marty Janetty in a tag team match and D’ Lo Brown. Mick Foley refereed a match between Galloway and Jay Phoenix who had a lengthy feud.

In Irish Whip Wrestling, Drew Galloway had a lengthy feud with “S.O.S.”, Sheamus O'Shaunessy who later became Sheamus in the WWE. Drew Galloway then later down the line became the Irish Whip Wrestling International World Heavyweight Champion. While on tour of the UK, Galloway also won the Insane Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship but also had matches with guys like TJ Wilson (Tyson Kidd) and Chad Collyer in All Star Wrestling.

It was in late 2006 where Drew Galloway had his first tryout with the WWE alongside Sheamus and had yet another in April 2007 when the WWE were in London. On the 12th October 2007, Galloway made his debut as Drew McIntyre with Dave Taylor at his side to defeat Brett Major (Zack Ryder) on Smackdown and then the next week defeated Brian Major (Curt Hawkins) the following week with the help of Dave Taylor. In January 4th 2008 he defeated Charlie Haas on the Raw brand but then disappeared from television.

It was in 2009 when McIntyre made his return to television on the Smackdown brand now acting as a heel and attacking R-Truth for a few weeks before attacking Charlie Haas during one of the shows claiming Haas’ opponent R-Truth was injured backstage. 25th September was when he gained the name, “The Chosen One” by the WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon as Vince McMahon called him a “future World Champion”. His first match was against R-Truth at the Hell in a Cell Pay Per View where he defeated R-Truth in under 5 minutes using the Future Shock DDT. McIntyre then became a member of Team Miz at Survivor Series where he teamed with former rival, Sheamus and was along with The Miz and Sheamus the last men standing in the traditional Survivor Series match.

Winning his first championship came when Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. His first loss following an undefeated streak came against Kane in a Money in the Bank Qualifying match and then later against Matt Hardy but at both shows Mr. McMahon told Smackdown general manager, Theodore Long to expunge the losses. He then qualified for the Money in the Bank by defeating an unsigned wrestler. His undefeated streak however came to an end against The Undertaker. He failed to win the Money in the Bank match itself at WrestleMania 26 which would be his first WrestleMania match.

He lost his title by having it stripped off him by Teddy Long and was suspended for purpose of a storyline, Mr. McMahon then forced for him to be reinstated the following week and he was Intercontinental Champion again but he then lost his championship to Kofi Kingston at Over the Limit. During an episode of Smackdown on the 25th of June, Teddy Long had told Drew McIntyre his work visa had expired and would have to go back to Scotland immediately but this was not just storyline because McIntyre’s work visa had indeed expired taking him off television for the time being. After two weeks he returned and apologized to Teddy Long to be re-instated. He then qualified for the match with a pay per view now named after it, Money in the Bank by defeating Kofi Kingston but yet again came out with the short straw during the match.

At the Night of Champions pay per view, Drew McIntyre who had teamed with “Dashing” Cody Rhodes while feuding with Matt Hardy and Christian became the WWE Tag Team Champions in a five-team tag team turmoil match, with the Tag Team Championships they were able to appear on both Raw and Smackdown. At Bragging Rights they then lost the championships to The Nexus (John Cena and David Otunga). The Smackdown after the pay per view the team then broke up following an argument.

Now on the Raw brand after being drafted in 2011 we have not seen much of Drew McIntyre. Bret Hart recently spoke up by saying that talent like Drew McIntyre shouldn’t be wasted on Superstars (funnily enough that Drew McIntyre was used this Monday on Raw when Bret Hart was there), but Jim Ross has also claimed that he likes the potential he has but just doesn’t like the fact he has no character other than he is Scottish and what his objectives are.

Drew McIntyre known as “The Chosen One” has never had a chance to go for the top title on which ever brand he is on. Having already won the Tag Team and Intercontinental Championships, if Drew McIntyre ever got his chance at becoming a WWE/World Champion, “The Chosen One” would be a new Grand Slam Champion in the WWE. I for one would like to see, Drew McIntyre develop more of a character to become the future of the WWE.
